Slipknot Challenges You to “All Out Life”

Metal gods Slipknot have delivered…again (shocker). The award-winning metal group are back with much more than just a single. The hype is real, boys and girls. We are officially in new album territory for the first time since 2014. Fresh off of .5: The Gray Chapter, the Iowa-based rockers are now set to release their sixth full-length album in 2019. Lead singer Corey Taylor  states that the new album will be “a cross between the first album (self titled Slipknot) and Iowa“. For those familiar with Slipknot, that is probably the best news you have heard since Iowa released back in 2001. For the newbies, buckle your seatbelts.

On Halloween (October 31) of 2018, the Slipknot “maggots” were greeted with a surprise of epic proportions. Slipknot’s new single, “All Out Life”, debuted alongside a music video release via YouTube. If you have not heard it yet, be sure to check out the link below. I can guarantee it will be the best decision you have made today.

In an interview with Beats 1, Corey Taylor explained the meaning of the new single. According to Taylor, “Everybody talks about toxic masculinity and toxic fandom these days. For me, it’s more about this toxic idea that unless something came out 10 minutes ago, it’s not any good, and that bothers me.” Additionally, Taylor touches on the lyrical influence by stating, “I love new music, but at the same time don’t turn your back on the music that’s been. It’s a rallying cry for everyone saying, ‘you know what? Let’s not talk about old, let’s talk about new, let’s talk about what is’.”

In all honesty, this is my favorite song to come since Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Verses) released in 2004. Lyrically, it is a masterpiece. Especially in regard to Taylor’s statements regarding its meaning. It is, in truth, 100% Slipknot. It exceeds any and all expectations held prior to its release. Musically, it fits the mold of a mixture between Slipknot and Iowa. “All Out Life” is heavy, ruthless, and takes no prisoners. We have been waiting for this one for a long time, and we have now been assured that we can expect the entire picture in 2019. Until then, let this one rip and take it as a breath of fresh air.
